NEW INTRO SERIES

Our Intro Series is designed to guide climbers from their first time in the gym to learning to lead climb.

Take this series of group classes in order to get skills, drills and direct coaching from our incredible and friendly crew of instructors. Or step into the series based on your current experience level. Learn everything from safety skills to techniques to help you move better on the wall, and mental techniques to improve your climbing.

Introduction to Rope Climbing

Now Available!

Learn the basics of knot tying and belay technique in this hour long intro lesson. Designed for people with little or no climbing experience, this course teaches the skills needed to climb independently at Earth Treks’ and is a great way to learn the ropes.

Join Top El Cap coaches for this 4-week program focused on mental skills for experienced climbers (1-3 years of regular climbing experience) . We’ll explore key concepts - breathing, body language, self talk, and deliberate intensity - and build a foundation for becoming better and smarter athletes.

PROGRAM FORMAT
This is a combination of virtual practices and in person training sessions. Virtual practices focus on exploring new content through lessons, activities, video analysis, and group discussion. In-person practices focus on applying these lessons on the wall, getting feedback from coaches, and building community with fellow athletes.

Length: 4 weeks
Format: 1 practice per week (alternating virtual and in person), plus take home exercises and drills to do on your own or with teammates. Virtual practices are 75 minutes long via zoom on a weeknight. In person practices are 2 hours long at Earth Treks Crystal City on Sunday.

Introduction to Leading

Now Available!

Over the course of two classes, learn the critical techniques necessary to both lead climb and belay in the gym. Participants will be given the opportunity to take and catch practice lead falls. This course is also a great first step for those with aspirations of leading outdoors.

Prerequisites: Belay safety check (top rope). While there is no strict requirement on climbing ability, most participants are able to comfortably top rope several 5.9’s in a normal climbing session.

Introduction to Leading Lab

Step outside the mock scenario to further hone your lead climbing and belaying skills. You'll come out of this class with a more nuanced understanding of best lead climbing practices, whether you're working to pass your Lead Check or you are already leading and want to build your confidence on the fundamentals.

Learn movement skills necessary for the overhanging terrain common in bouldering, falling skills (yes, you need to learn to fall) and bouldering etiquette. If you are bouldering in the V Intro-V2 range or your climbing experience is limited to roped climbing thus far, this is the perfect class to jump start your bouldering experience!

Peak Performance Training

Peak Performance Training is an intensive 6-week training program that incorporates three core concepts critical to every climber’s success—fitness, movement and motivation. The PPT “team” gathers twice a week with ET instructors to train, refine movement technique and push each other to improve across climbing disciplines. If you’ve hit a plateau or aspire to climb a certain grade PPT is for you.

This series of seminars will help prepare you to handle a variety of emergencies at the crag - offering practical solutions to real situations, involving the kind of gear you probably already carry. Every week will focus on a different set of skills.
