August, 2015. After leading over 150 international mountaineering expeditions since 1990, Earth Treks has come to the difficult decision to cease mountain guiding operations. Over our twenty five years of guiding peaks we’ve had the privilege of sharing incredible life changing experiences with amazing people. We want to thank everyone who has been a part of the mountain program at Earth Treks. Earth Treks, both as a business and as a community, has been forever shaped by the mountaineering program–and we are forever grateful.
The decision to cease mountain guiding operations involved many factors, but the timing and final straw was the recent seismic activity on Mt. Cotopaxi in Ecuador. “Coto” has been our signature program, and the instability of the peak and deteriorating conditions not only impacted our ability to run trips to Ecuador, but had a domino effect in the remainder of the program that led us to this decision. Please note that only international mountaineering programs have been impacted. Earth Treks’ outdoor climbing school in Maryland is not effected, nor our climbing center operations.
If you have any questions or just want to share some memories we’d love to hear from you!
